Western Balkan Sport Innovation Lab (WBSI Lab) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization based in Podgorica, Montenegro, dedicated to advancing research, innovation, and cooperation in sport and related fields. Established by a multidisciplinary team of experts from across the Western Balkans, WBSI Lab operates as a regional hub connecting academia, industry, and public institutions, with a strong focus on European collaboration and sustainable development.
Our activities are structured around three complementary strategic pillars:
- Lobbying and Education
We contribute to evidence-informed policymaking by engaging with decision-makers at national, regional, and European levels. At the same time, we support education, upskilling, and lifelong learning through knowledge-transfer activities aligned with Erasmus+ priorities. - Research and Innovation
We design, coordinate, and implement research and innovation projects at both national and European levels. A key component of our work is the organization of international scientific conferences and co-publishing an international scientific journal, which provide a platform for academic exchange, dissemination of results, and the development of new partnerships. - Services and Knowledge Dissemination
We ensure that research results and project outcomes are effectively communicated and transferred to relevant stakeholders, including academia, industry, policymakers, and end users. Our dissemination activities include publications, digital platforms, media outreach, and stakeholder events.
By combining research excellence, policy engagement, and structured dissemination, WBSI Lab contributes to the development of the European Research Area, the modernization and internationalization of higher education, stronger regional cooperation in the Western Balkans, and the advancement of innovation in sport and related fields.
WBSI Lab is currently involved in the implementation of Erasmus+ Sport projects such as WELEAD and FAIR PLAYS, as well as co-publishing the international scientific journal “Innovative Technologies in Sport and Physical Activity” and the organization of international conferences including PASTECHL and FIEPS, alongside numerous local and regional initiatives.
