During this morning’s guest appearance on the TV Vijesti program “Boje jutra”, data from UNICEF reports were discussed, showing that around 75% of children in Montenegro do not meet the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation of at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity. The guests on the show were Prof. Dr. Stevo Popović, University of Montenegro professor and WBSI Lab member, Ognjen Vujisić, a physical education teacher at one of the schools in Podgorica, and Dragan Mijušković, a representative of the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation.
During the discussion, it was emphasized that the issue is multifaceted — ranging from an outdated school model, originating in the mid-20th century and not adapted to modern needs for regular physical activity, to infrastructural and organizational challenges in schools (lack of sports halls, overcrowded classes, insufficient space). The need for systemic measures was highlighted, with the goal of ensuring that physical education and sport once again become an integral part of the daily lives of children and young people.
